Blog 4.2 : Middle School observation 3

On Thursday May 7th I did my last observation at our local middle school. In this observation I observed the same teacher, but a different group of kids. Unfortunately due to schedule differences between the High School and the middle school I was unable to stay for very long. Fortunately I was able to learn a lot through my short amount of time.

When I arrived at my assigned classroom my teacher was on prep. I stayed on prep with her, then one of her classes came in. When the students arrived Mrs. McGowan quickly put them to work with a graphing work sheet over plant growth. The students worked quickly and quietly. After almost everyone was done my teacher announced who was missing work and what work they missed. Then it was outside time, unfortunately for some of the ones that were missing they had to stay inside.

Sadly that was all of the time I had in this class. In this time I learned that it is important for students to receive a little extra work time as a make up day. It is also important for the teachers so they can get some grading in too! Overall I had a lovely time observing this teacher and will be using many of her methods when I become an educator in the future.
